Nicaragua is rich in culture, nature, handicrafts, and cuisines; you will experience this richness on this day tour departing from Granada.

The day starts with a pick up at your hotel between 8:30-9:00AM in an air conditioned vehicle and accompanied by a bilingual, certified tour guide.

This tour begins with a drive to Volcan Masaya for a visit to the active volcano. You will have the option to walk or drive from the entrance to the visitor center where you can view the lava fields and learn about the local wildlife. This is followed by a drive to the crater for a view of the bright orange lava lake.

The second stop treats you to a colorful shopping and photography experience at the craft markets in the town of Masaya.  Here you will find handicrafts from various regions of Nicaragua.  You may be inspired to take home a hammock, some pottery, wood carvings, or handmade shoes. The vendors are friendly and open to making a deal. Ready for a cool snack? Try one of the delicious smoothies at the market stalls.

Next you’ll go to the village of Catarina for an expansive view from above of the Laguna de Apoyo Nature Reserve, a volcanic crater turned deep-water lake. On the way up to the crater you’ll stop for lunch at The Pupusa Factory where you can enjoy a variety of homemade pupusas and fresh juices. Take in the variety of exotic fruits available to taste at the local fruit stands. (may stop at bamboo workshop for a demo)

The tour will finish in the town of San Juan de Oriente where generations of potters spin their wheels to create works from the local clay and natural dyes. Enjoy a demonstration of this hands-on process.

You’ll have a hard time deciding what to bring home but be sure to leave plenty of room in your suitcase for all your new treasures.

We’ll have you back at your hotel in Granada in time for dinner and an evening out in this beautiful colonial town.
